Installing Flash SIMMs in the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 6P and 6MP

Print a self test by simultaneously pressing Go and Job Cancel.

  1. After the self test is printed, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord.
  2. Open the interface cable door and disconnect all interface cables.
  3. Open the top cover by pressing the top cover release button on the right side of the printer.
  4. Press the side panel release button (A) and slide the left side panel forward (B) until the alignment arrows line up (C).
  5. Pull the panel away from the printer, exposing the available SIMM slots.

Caution

SIMM boards can be damaged by small amounts of static electricity. When handling the SIMM, wear an antistatic wrist strap or frequently touch the surface of the antistatic package, then bare metal on the printer.

  1. Remove the SIMM from the antistatic package while avoiding touching the metal contacts.Pull the Blue jumper off.

7 Hold the SIMM so the notch on one end is on the bottom and the metal contacts face toward the slot.

8 Hold the SIMM at a 30 degree angle to the first available slot from the right. Push the edge of the board evenly and firmly into the slot (D) Rotate the SIMM to the right (E) until the board snaps into the locking tabs.

Repeat steps 6, 7, and 8 for each SIMM being installed.

9 Replace the side panel by lining up the alignment arrows (F) and sliding the panel backwards (G) until the release button latches into place (H). Close the top cover.

10 Reinstall the interface cable(s) and power cord. Turn the printer on.

NOTE: HP LaserJet 4L, 5L, 6L, and 1100 printers will be reset to factory defaults if they are manually reset or unplugged.

  • To change default settings for the current job only, replace Default with the Set command.
    To enter the escape sequence (Ec),  in to DOS edit, press CTRL then P. No character will appear on the screen at this point. Let up on both keys and press ESC. A Left Arrow will be displayed on the screen.

This command changes the printer name to any name, up to 32 characters. The command is as follows:

  • NOTE: This change will be reflected in all places that the printer name appears.

Printing self-test pages
